In Session: A Cabaret Season

21st-26th May, 2019 at The Halo Lounge

In Session 2019 was Blackboard Theatre Collective’s first cabaret development season. Eight acts, four double bills, one week. Christchurch's most-talented storytellers took the stage using music and song to present stories from their past and future; both fictitious and true. Blackboard worked with 11 local artists as they created and developed their own solo, duo or trio acts. We presented a wide-variety of shows featuring pop, hip hop, country, musical theatre and opera combined with the heart and humour of our performers. Several of these cabarets have since gone on to perform at various festivals all over the country.

Caelan Thomas
Kimberly Wood

Producing eight original cabaret style shows, presented in four double bills over one week may seem an ambitious endeavour even for an established company, the two shows offered tonight and the audience’s reaction prove there is ample space for The Blackboard Collective in our city’s theatrical landscape, and that they are definitely improving the view
