Over a weekend in late June, Blackboard Theatre Collective hosted the Isolation Mixtape Challenge, a 72-hour songwriting challenge where four teams created four new Kiwi musical theatre songs…

OH SHEEEET… SHEET MUSIC?! That’s right…
With The Isolation Mixtape, BTC aimed to grow the culture of New Zealand Musical Theatre songwriting. Musical Theatre is undoubtedly the most popular form of commercial theatre here in New Zealand. Despite this theatrical landscape, there is a serious lack of opportunity for young MT writers. There are few mentors, no tertiary programs, and little financial compensation.
Purchasing this music puts money directly into the pockets of the writers and performers involved in The Isolation Mixtape. It is our mission to keep these young artists practicing and paid so that they do not give up on a future of contributing to the New Zealand arts and wider cultural landscape.
Help Blackboard realise our vision of a future where the shows touring New Zealand are not shows that were on Broadway five years ago, but shows that are headed to Broadway in five years.
